Inscribed 2021CulturalHokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, Akita

Seventeen archaeological sites of the Jomon people, sedentary hunter-fisher-gatherers who lived in northern Japan for over 10,000 years (c. 13,000–400 BCE). Shell mounds, pit-dwelling settlements such as Sannai-Maruyama, stone circles and ritual earthworks show a spiritual culture that flourished without farming.
